The Univest Company B.V. is Unilever’s in-house central investment services company responsible for overseeing the c. EUR 23bn of assets of Unilever’s 75+ worldwide pension schemes in 40+ countries. The Univest Company will provide services to Unilever and Unilever’s pension schemes, ranging from simple advice and assistance to reviewing and fully implementing investment strategies including assisting plans to better manage risk an invest responsibly.
 
Pension assets and liabilities are significant items on Unilever’s balance sheet and the other financial metrics (P&L and cash) are also material in the context of Unilever as a whole.
The Univest Company also has responsibility for running Unilever’s range of cross border asset pooling vehicles (the Univest vehicles) in which multiple different Unilever pension funds invest. Univest Company employees are split across the UK and Netherlands, operating as one team.
 
The role provides the opportunity in growing experience in ESG and data management and its development supporting traditional and alternative asset classes in the broader perspective plus ESG and impact (metrics) integration. The role involves supporting primarily the Univest ESG and investment team in their day-to-day work. Primary focus on the investment side will be related to ESG driven investments (across all asset classes), private equity and real estate.
 
The role enables candidates to work in projects with other product groups, clients and operations. Job rotation (including UK based functions) after a period of 3 to 5 years is encouraged.
The key areas of focus are:
- To research latest developments on ESG metrics and benchmarks and their position in different asset classes.
- To support co-designing continuously evolving frameworks and ways of working to the latest practical standards.
- To support the team collecting, quantifying and reporting ESG over the portfolios (including linking the information to existing systems).
- To grow relationships of external providers
- To support with implementation of ESG policies (e. g. exclusion and communication thereof)
- Alternatives
- To support in tracking the non-listed portfolio investment funds high level KPI data including characteristics as ESG, valuation, cash flow, performance, occupancy, leverage, cap rates, etc.
- To support in collection and analysis of the portfolio in comparison with peers
- To support in monitoring of and engaging with the external managers in order to get insight behind all the supporting analyses and to get on the learning curve on engagement and voting
- Work on various projects for the director of Investment and Senior Portfolio Managers.
- Support other (senior) members of the investment team, whether based in Rotterdam or London on various tasks which could involve interaction with various service providers of the Univest company
- The ability to work independently to deadlines on the projects and tasks assigned to the role
- The ability to work accurately, with attention to detail whilst still ensuring timely delivery of projects
- Strong analytic skills enabling effective transition of data to information
- Hands-on mentality in order to pioneer in innovation
- Strong IT skills and the willingness to quickly get up to speed with the various systems used by the team is crucial. Strong knowledge of standard packages such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint is expected whilst going forward we expect the right candidate to develop strong knowledge of systems used such as Bloomberg, Factset, Style Research and other systems are in use at the time.
